"Life in Germany" Test

Your orientation test for naturalisation and permanent residence

The "Life in Germany" test (LiD - Leben in Deutschland) contains questions about German history, culture, and politics and takes place at our center after the orientation course. It is aimed at people who want to apply for naturalisation or a permanent residence permit or wish to extend their residence permit.

The test consists of a total of 33 multiple-choice questions with four possible answers each, of which only one is correct. Participants have 60 minutes to answer the 33 questions.

🎯 Passing Requirements

  • 15 correct answers = test passed (permanent residence)
  • 17 correct answers required for naturalisation
  • Official certificate upon passing
  • Unlimited retake opportunities

Test Subject Areas

The questions cover the following areas:

  • Politics in democracy (fundamental rights, elections, political system)
  • History and responsibility (German history since 1933)
  • People and society (religion, education, social security)
  • Federal state-specific questions (e.g., about Saxony)

Why Do You Need This Test?

The "Life in Germany" test is required for:

  • Naturalisation: Proof of knowledge about German society (minimum 17 correct answers)
  • Permanent residence permit: Unlimited right of residence in Germany
  • Extension of residence permit: Required in certain cases
  • Completion of integration course: Together with the DTZ certificate
